On the birthday of Amatullah

Postby Truth Knight » Fri Mar 05, 2010 9:43 am

Again, I don't believe in birthdays, but I pray that Allah (SWT) would draw you closer to Him with each passing day.
The Holy Qur'an : sourat Al A'raf: 173-174 wrote:
Or lest ye should say: "Our fathers before us took false gods, but we are (their) descendants after them: wilt Thou then destroy us because of the deeds of men who were futile?" Thus do We explain the signs in detail! and perchance they may turn (unto Us).

Shukran, sister and brothers. I guess I kind of agree with you Mr.Ahmad. hmmm I always called my mom on my birthday, since she went through the pain of having me, in more ways than one, lol. I don't believe gifts should matter and it is very rare that I would ever spent $4 on a piece of paper to say Happy Birthday for me unless it was something I knew would make my dad laugh, when I lived so far away from him. I think it's fine to let the birthday person choose what they want cooked for dinner and that sort of thing, but I think as Muslims we should try and stay away from the more "Americanized" traditions and 'customs'. I don't know if that comparison or label (of Americanized) makes sense to those who live in other countries, but we mean the commercialized "clap-trap". I think if we want to give something to a person, it should be because we want to and/or the good of Allah (SWT) and not when a few big industries tell us we should. We should instill our own special traditions into our children that are compatible with Islam and Hallmark isn't in the Qur'an. It is nice to be remembered now and then though. Jak! ;D
